WELCOME TO PENNINGTON HOLLOW FARM!
Pennington Hollow Farm, established in 2004, is nestled in the forested, rolling hills of Brookville, Indiana. Our family specializes in growing O------c* vegetables, herbs, and seedlings for CSA and farmers’ market. Our farm is Certified Naturally GrownTM and all of our produce and plants are free of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides. We strive to build soil fertility by natural means in order to grow produce that is rich in nutrients for the health of our family and yours.

Preserving heirlooms is important to us, and beneficial for long-term soil fertility as some Heirloom varieties require less nutrients than some modern hybrids. We grow over 25 varieties of heirloom veggies, and over 30 varieties of heirloom tomatoes. We save many of our own seeds, replanting them each year, which leads to the adaptability of our crops to our specific climate. Here is a few of the heirlooms we have grown (earliest recorded date of origin): Red Fig tomatoes (1831), Black Valentine beans (1897), DeCicco broccoli (1890), Bloody Butcher corn (1845), Red Russian Kale (1885), Bloomsdale spinach (1908), and Rhubarb chard (1857), and many, many more.
Farm Fresh Eggs are provided by our pastured flock of 40 laying hens. Our hens free-range over our 14-acre farm from October through March searching for insects and foraging on vegetation. From April through September, the hens are placed in portable coops and moved to fresh pasture twice daily. Their natural diet of insects and grass is supplemented with locally purchased grains and laying ration, which is free of antibiotics and animal products. Our eggs are available to our CSA and farmers’ market customers.
A large selection of O-----c* Heirloom Eggplant, Pepper, Herb and Tomato Plants are grown at the farm. We sell our seedlings at farmers’ markets in the early Spring. We now have a small greenhouse, but we continue to raise our tomato plants outdoors. Exposure to cooler temperatures 4 weeks prior to going to market makes them extremely hardy. Many of our customers have returned to tell us how much better our tomatoes performed compared to greenhouse purchased plants.
